Carrollton: Summer Songs

There’s something about this southern rock album that makes me want to roll down my windows, crank the stereo, and drive out to the mountains to drink in the glory of God.

The entire EP is great, but be sure not to miss the Prodigal Son themed lyrics on my favorite track, Bring Me Back Home:

I lift my eyes and Yours meet mine
And I surrender to Your love.
My shame gives way to amazing grace
You’ve come to bring me back home.

From NoiseTrade: Named for the Kentucky town between Cincinnati and Louisville, Carrollton merges a rock sound with southern sensibilities and God-focused intentions. “This Is Life”, a driving rock song, and “Red,” a heartfelt anthem, both speak about looking for God’s provision in times of uncertainty. “Bring Me Back Home” has you stomping your foot, while the band sings about the prodigal son being welcomed back home. Finally, “Rest” is a worshipful plea to God for guidance within restlessness.

Esterlyn: Woven

Confession: I love Coldplay. There’s just something about music with orchestral backing, pop riffs, and melodic vocals that I can’t get enough of.

There, I said it.

Given that embarrassing fact about my taste in music, it’s no surprise that I absolutely love this new album from Esterlyn.

Unlike Coldplay, though, Esterlyn requires no explanation to justify enjoyment. Their talented combination of passionate worship lyrics and catchy pop melodies blends perfectly into what I would consider one of the best worship albums I’ve heard in a while.

Just try to listen to “Holy” without tapping your foot.

I dare you.

We pray this album will remind us that we are all on a journey- one that the Lord has predestined before the foundations of the world. May each of our lives be a small piece of God’s great masterpiece to reveal His great love to this world. Beautiful Eulogy—Instruments of Mercy

From NoiseTrade: Beautiful Eulogy is a Portland, Oregon-based group made up of artists Braille, Odd Thomas and Courtland Urbano. The group introduces a distinct and directive sound that’s driven by a desire to worship and glorify the God of the Bible, based in the context of its members’ hip-hop roots and shaped by influences like electronic music, folk songs and old hymns.

The natural way Beautiful Eulogy came together parallels its organic creative process. As its members cooperated on various musical and church-related projects, they realized their chemistry and the opportunity before them to form a completely collaborative group that would emphasize a new gestalt — one that would allow them to steer away from a pure hip-hop trajectory while holding onto its origins, and that would free them from the courses of their solo careers while applying their individual talents to a collective. “We’re reinventing ourselves together,” the group says. Its members enjoy their creative freedom within self-imposed boundaries, by predefining their work’s message, sound and purpose.

Beautiful Eulogy now presents their sophomore release “Instruments Of Mercy“, a natural progression of their sound using analog & acoustic instruments accompanied with poetic & passionate lyricism with a primary emphasis on worshipping & glorifying God.

“Can mankind make an image of a god and be convinced that the god they imagine in their mind is a god that exists? But if God made man, how can man make a god and make a claim that God is confined to fit within a frame? How can mankind decide how God should be identified? Can you alter the truth if you accept or deny? Do the stars disappear when the blind look at the sky, or do they simply fail to see what was there the whole time?”
